Seven good reasons why you should insulate your home.

Seven good reasons why you should insulate your home.

Whether you’re building a new home or contemplating improving an existing one, here are seven compelling reasons why you should look at adding insulation.

1. It will help to reduce your energy bills

Whether you’re heating or cooling your home, having a good level of insulation will help to keep that heat in or out, so you can use less energy to keep the temperature just right. In fact, the cost of installing insulation will typically pay for itself within 3-5 years and will then continue to save you money for many more years to come. It’s simple to buy online too!

2. Thermal comfort

It’s not just about saving energy, it’s also about taking control of your environment so that you feel comfortable - not too hot in summer and not too cold in winter.

3. It can help to make your building healthier

When it’s installed correctly, insulation can help to reduce the risk of condensation forming, leading to issues such as mould which can affect both the building and your own health. Always check with the manufacturer about the appropriate materials and installation methods to use for each project.

4. It will add value to your home

Investing in insulation not only improves your experience of living in your home, it also makes it a more attractive proposition if you decide to sell, offering prospective buyers a comfortable and lower cost of living space to run.

5. Cutting carbon emissions

We have all witnessed some of the impacts of climate change, such as the increasing incidents of severe weather events, from extreme heat leading to more bush fires to excessive rain causing flooding. It’s easy to feel helpless to make a difference when we hear about or experience these events, but we all have a part to play. Most of our energy is still generated from fossil fuels, so by insulating our homes and reducing our energy demand we could all help to make a small but significant contribution towards cutting carbon emissions and making it easier to transition to sources of cleaner renewable energy.

6. Building Regulations

If you’re building a new home, an extension or replacing a thermal element such as your roof there is a sixth reason, which is that it is a requirement of Part H1 of the Building Regulations to have a minimum ‘R-value’ - in other words thermal resistance - across your roof, floor and walls. That means you must have some sort of insulation.  Read our blog about R-values to learn more about what to look out for.

7. Modern materials make it easy

With so many benefits it’s a no brainer to add insulation to your property, but you might have been put off by past experiences with itchy mineral fibre, or think that it might take up too much space. But never fear - with a material R-value as high as 4.31(m2.K/W), the Conqueror CQ1200IB Insulation Board is a rigid, fibre free PIR insulation material that is slim, lightweight and easy to handle, but offers some of the best thermal performance of any commonly available insulation.

The only question now is, what are you waiting for?
